Aloha from Kona 2009Kona

So it takes the Hawaii ironman to be this weekend for me to write on my blog finally eh? I think FaceBook is taking away anytime I have to put thoughts down. So I welcome you to be my FaceBook friend. click here

The flight into Kona was fairly uneventful. I sat very near the voice of Ironman Mike Reilly. He is the guy that tell you “you are an Ironman” when you cross the finish line. I slept most of the time which was good. Once we landed it was full on. For some reason there were not many triathletes on my flight. I did notice a few but not as many as I am used to. Lots of tourist. Almost every year I meet some tourist that comes to Kona during Ironman week and they had no idea that this race was on in the middle of their vacation.

Our Monday arrival is the latest we have ever arrived. The schedule has been hectic. Meetings with potential sponsors and partners, more meetings with athletes and friends, booth set up, get ready for our athlete breakfast and then trying to still get some exercise or as Mark calls it a mini vacation. He posted on our twitter feed that exercise is like taking a little vacation in the middle of your day. In any case the Hawaii Ironman official festivities have started with the parade.

We then had tons of people at stop at the booth to get Mark to autograph his new book or just to take a picture with him. Many of our athletes stopped by to sign our poster were we have all their names.

Tonight we had dinner with Greg Welch who now works for Ironman and Oakley. He was part of the old guard who trained in Boulder and Greg became he first Australian Hawaii Ironman Champion.

The vive in the island has been very typical with heat and humidity and with some windy days and some calm days. No huge Vog, no hurricanes and no earthquakes knock on wood. Some people are saying that it is going to rain on Satrurday. We will see.

Tomorrow on Wednesday I will swim on the course with our team and later in the day run from the energy lab. I will let you know how that goes. Then is a full day of expo. I still have not put together the P4 to have at the booth for show but I will also do that tomorrow.

The photo here is the lava fields as seen from my airplane window during the approach to the airport.

Aloha.
