Rick Simpson joined our coaching staff in 2015. Rick has an extensive athletic background. He started as a competitive swimmer during his childhood and competed for his high school and college teams. After college he became a swimming coach and helped age group and High School State Champions. Rick also competed in Cross Country Skiing Races as well as in The WISPORT citizen cycling series in Wisconsin.

Rick began triathlon training and racing in 2005, the same year he met coach Vargas when he was giving an endurance training lecture in Wisconsin. Rick signed up for some coaching with us and completed his first IRONMAN in 2007. Later in 2012 Rick became the M60-64 Hawaii IRONMAN World Champion and also has Runner-Up finishes in 2013 and 2014. Rick attributes his success to some key training and in race tips from coach Vargas.

Rick is a student of the sport and embraces the Smart Training principles with emphasis in recovery. He believes the most important ingredient in triathlon performance is the training program and the most important individual is the athlete. After living in the mid-west for most of his life, Rick now lives in Henderson, Nevada near Las Vegas.
