Swim pack

Yes I am back to blogging. Thanks for all the emails asking when my next post was going to be up. Now the blogs are integrated into the web site and you can login to the web site and post here any comments you like. Of course they have to be approved but I have yet to not approve one.

What has been happening? Before going to Kona we hired a new coach Marco Coelho. He is a great guy and so far the athletes we coach really like him. He also went to Ironman Florida and clocked a 9:11. That makes me officially the slowest guy in the company. What is an old slow part time triathlete to do. Ah I can still beat him and Mark in the pool.

I have been to Kona for the Ironman of course. I wrote a post back then but you could not read it until yesterday. You can read it by navigating to October on the calendar on this page.

Later I went to Clearwater for the 70.3 championships. The expo there was poorly attended. That was a disappointment. The organizers set up the expo far away and athletes were not going to go there if they did not have to. That meant they only went once to pick up their race packet. Then the race was another draft-fest. I think they need to make that race a staggered start race where one person goes every 10 or 20 seconds. They did that at Ironman Louisville and as far as I know it went well.

After Clearwater we have been working on our 2008 sponsors. We will announce them very soon as well as send a press release asking for resumes for our age group team. So if you think you can represent us nationally and in your community by placing in your age group and being able to do well. Send us your triathlon resume.

Unfortunately our age group team is a US based team because many of our sponsors will not ship outside the US, In many cases they can not ship product outside the US due to export laws. People email us complaining about it. The internet is a great thing and allows us to coach people anywhere. But the product shipping is ruled by the government. It is very complicated and we can not do anything about it.

We also held a sweepstakes to give free stuff out and that was a huge hit. We announced the winners a few weeks ago. We gave away a Cervelo frame, coaching, heart rate monitors, shoes and other stuff. But again we could not ship product outside the US and internationals were not really eligible. We later added free training if any international who won product. But in the original announcement via our worldwide newsletter did not mentioned that. We got tons of email from our internationals complaining about it. “Please don’t bother me with this if I can not win.” Geesh! We try to do something so our people can win free stuff and that is what we get. Our newsletter database does not have country associated with the email. One guy emailed some really smart ass comment. “Hello computer geniuses (Luis?), your database base must show the country of the people in it, correct? So why bothering us at all the other than the US countries and wasting our time with a sweepstakes that is only for US residents…..” This is a little irritating to me. Good thing I get to blow some steam here.

Oh the life of an online coach. People can really send some blows via email. I bet he would not be such a smart ass in person.

One the positive side; we have had a great year. Our athletes have done tremendously. Not just our best athletes that we feature on the home page or ads. But also our beginner and middle of the pack athletes that improve and are very excited as they get faster and fitter. That is the great part about this job.

I look forward to a great 2008 and some good blog posts.
