Three feet of snow
Three feet of snowMy sister in law just called asking if we had any ideas as to how her friend's son can get out of Colorado and over to Wisconsin in time for Christmas. Mmmmm? A helicopter will do it. Our dear state is shut down. At my house we have had about 3 feet (1 meter) of snow. I worked out for about 2 hours yesterday. (my only workout since last Friday) but it was shoveling and plowing snow. Our decoration deer is almost covered. The International airport in Denver is shutdown and our two major Highways are closed. The snow is supposed to dwindle a little just in time for Christmas so that means our town will be packed with skiers and visitors over the Holidays. It will be a very white snowy Christmas.

I caught a bug last weekend, most likely one that my kids have had. So I have not worked out but perhaps I will today. I may just go downhill ski this afternoon. If I do I’ll bring my camera. I just have to coordinate with my wife and kids. After a season of Ironman training I do not have much bargaining chips left if you know what I mean.

My winter triathlon hopes are not looking very good. I tried to skate ski as much as I can but I am not learning the thing fast enough to feel like I can jump in a race. That is a bummer given that I live here. But I like to run and swim so skate ski takes a back seat when I have a chance to train. My bike is still in the bike case since I packed it before Clearwater.

Many people stress at this time of the year because they can not train as much etc. My advice is to relax. The last thing you want to do is not be able to enjoy the Holidays and then on top not train as well. So enjoy the Holidays, watch what you eat and get in a little training. There is usually plenty of time to train before the big races. Besides, one week of inconsistent training is usually normal for all of us. Before Kona last October I must have lost at least two weeks due to family and illness. Hardly anyone gets all their scheduled workouts in. In some cases a break is actually a good thing. I remember coming back very strong after a forced break in my early years.

Well guys this is my last post before Christmas so Merry Christmas to you. I hope you have been good all year and Santa brings you that carbon bike or that new set of wheels you have been asking for.
